spoke of the history of Winter
Solstice celebrations, and how these
ancient celebrations have informed
the traditional winter holidays of
China, Japan, Korea, the Ukraine,
and Puerto Rico’s Three Kings Day
as well the global celebrations
of Christmas, Hanukkah, and
Kwanzaa. The SKS Chorus and
Hudson Brass performed holiday
songs throughout the evening,
culminating in a candle lighting
ceremony and a group sing-along
of the Irving Berlin classic “White
Christmas.” Although light was in
short supply outside as the earth
spun towards the shortest day of
the year, inside the theatre there
was enough light and warmth to go
around.
With a wish for snow still
hanging in the air, students and
faculty journeyed across campus

to enjoy a formal holiday feast
together in the dining hall courtesy
of Chef Moises and his crew. There
was musical accompaniment as
well at dinner: Saxophone, piano,
even students with piano apps on
u
