dear Friends,
Welcome to the latest issue
of
On The Mountain
!
as I write this, the spring athletic season is off
to a roaring start, the 2012-2013 school year is in the home stretch, and we are finally beginning to see
some flowers pointing their way up through the mountain soil. up here in the development office we’re
putting the finishing touches on the schedule for this year’s reunion weekend (June 7-9, 2013) and
looking forward to welcoming the Class of 2013 into the alumni association on Commencement day,
June 1. Before we know it the tips of the trees will be turning orange and red in the september twilight
and the Class of 2018 will arrive on campus. much like the Hudson river that flows past the base of
storm King mountain, our campus is energized by an ever shifting tidal current. we bid good bye with
one hand and wave a welcome with the other.
our previous director of development Irene seguin, has left storm King to work for the united way of
western Connecticut. we know you will join us in wishing Irene well and thanking her for all she’s done
for storm King these past few years. we also know that you will join us in welcoming our new director of
Leadership support Lynn Crevling ’72. one of the first women to graduate from sKs, Lynn has been
teaching in Thailand these past few years. But the currents and eddies of storm King have brought her
back to the mountain, and we are grateful and excited for her return.
I do hope you’ll allow the currents of your own lives to bring you back to storm King for reunion this
June, or Homecoming next fall, or whenever a stray swell manages to pick you up and surge towards
Cornwall-on-Hudson. The faces may be different, and perhaps a new building or two may prove
disorienting at first. But throughout it all, there is always the source of what continues to make sKs such
an extraordinary place, one that has remained for 145 years and counting. This energy is what pulls
together more than 135 young men and women every year, builds then into a community, and then
scatters them back across the world to continue their own individual journeys.
Friends come and go. seasons change. The mountain remains.
