A long lost tradi-
tion was revived
the weekend
of January 7-8
when the first
alumni bas-
ketball game
in 20 years
took place.
Twenty SKS
alums, ranging
in Class Years
from 1972 to
2010, and three
former staff and
faculty members
(Jason Steiker, Dr.
Leslie Pearl and Leslie
Breton) returned to
campus last weekend
to take on our varsity
basketball team to see
who the real “Kings of
the Mountain” were.
The alums took a three point lead
with less than three seconds left,
but thanks to some timely free
throw shooting by Amani G. ’13
and a buzzer beater by Nihal G.
’13, the game went into overtime
tied at 38. The lead changed back
and forth throughout the overtime
period until a last second basket by
Tim Munch ’04 carried the day for
the alums. The next day, alums and
students teamed up to challenge
Alumni Basketball
Weekend
our faculty and staff. This time the
outcome was never in doubt, as
Athletic Director Kevin Wilkins
and Dean of Students
Al Lewis led the faculty to a com-
manding 53 to 44 victory.
Many students and faculty
watched the games and cheered
their favorite players. During half-
time, the students tried their skill
and luck at sinking a basket from
center court. It exemplified school
spirit at its best.
Our thanks to Assistant Dean
of Students Billy Shovan and
Anthony Goris ’94 for working
with the Advancement Department
to make everything come together,
and to the Parents’ Association for
selling delicious snacks at halftime.
A special cheer to Athletic Direc-
tor Kevin Wilkins (see his ‘dunk’
photo) for his enthusiasm, sup-
port and getting his whole family
involved — his father and brother
served as referees.
We plan on hosting alumni
sporting events a lot more often
than every twenty years from now
on. As Jason Rivera ’94 joked after
the game: “Team Ben-Gay still got
it. Let’s do it again next year!”
