W
e have always had a strong tradi-
tional art program, but we have
now expanded our digital art lab to be
able to offer a broader computer based art
experience. We would like to send a big
thank you out to Mr. Roger D. Auer-
bacher ’66 for donating a few new com-
puter stations to make this possible! Our
newly improved art lab in the art center
includes nine computer stations with
Adobe Photoshop. We have an overhead
projector for demonstrations, and both
scanners and digital cameras. Digital art
requires a specific set of equipment, and
thankfully we are able to create art with
the exciting new technology.
Ms. Penecale, our Art Department
head, is a now teaching both Digital Pho-
tography and a Digital Art course that run
in the art lab. Students are also working
in the lab to create the school yearbook.
These courses give students a chance to
engage with current digital art tools, and
see the possibilities for a future career in
the art world. Students are learning to edit

decisions within the computer. Working
with new technology is like learning a
new language, it is difficult, but the results
are extremely rewarding. We have some
great young artists here at The Storm King
School who are ready to run with the
technological advances of our modern day.

hether its movie screens, TVs,
smart phones, or computer moni-
tors, our technology now gives us more
options to get the programming we want,
in the way we want it. Writers, producers,
directors, camera operators, lighting tech-
nicians, and others are modern storytellers
with a knack for putting that technology
to work, taking projects from concept
to captured images. Video editors and
digital video effects designers are among
the specialists who then add their talents
and imaginations to help bring the story
to life. Digital filmmaking and video pro-
duction programs can help SKS students

learn the same digital media, lighting,
camera equipment, and editing software
used in TV studios, movie sets, and
editing suites. These digital filmmaking
and video production programs prepare
students for such entry-level positions
as Video Editors, Video Producers and
Digital Videographers. The students can
tell their own stories and help meet the
industry’s strong demands for new media
professionals. All major advertisers are
advertising on the internet via YouTube.
Even here at SKS, we have hired profes-
sionals in this field to create videos that
are used on our website.
