Choosing
to Serve
Dozens of Hartwick students turned their backs on
comfort this Spring Break, forgoing tempting beaches or
home cooking to spend time and energy helping others
less fortunate than themselves. In the process, these
participants in Hartwick-sponsored Alternative Spring
Break service trips learned firsthand that wealth cannot
always be measured and the greatest gifts are often
unexpected.
Hartwick College is a regular participant in two major initiatives:
the WineToWater movement with its vision of bringing clean
water to people in need the world over, and the Habitat for
Humanity national service program and its vision of a world in
which everyone has a decent home in which to live.
The Hartwick community’s overarching goal: empower
others, strengthen communities, and contribute to change.
Hartwick Helps:
On National Giving Day (#GivingTuesday), the Hartwick community came
together in support of students’ efforts to make a difference in the world.
More than 200
alumni, students, parents, and friends responded to this crowdfunding initiative,
raising $8,720
to encourage the student volunteers and help them meet the expenses of
serving communities in Florida, the Dominican Republic, and Nepal.
