WhY I GIve
By Christina DiBella,
Parent of Danielle DiBella ‘14
GivinG TO THE annual FunD
is my way
to express my gratitude to The Storm King
School community. Gratitude to the amazing
faculty who are passionate about giving
students the best education and who are
equally committed to their well-being. They
nourish the students academically,
athletically, creatively, and morally. Lessons
learned in the classroom, athletics, outdoor
adventure, community service, and trips will
provide the groundwork and guidance for
life’s challenges in college and beyond.
My daughter has the privilege to attend
SKS and giving is a way to ensure our School
continues to thrive and is able to continue to
provide meaningful learning experiences for
students and staff well into the 21st century.

March 8–18, a group of Storm King students
travelled to Europe with my wife, Jennifer,
and me. Departing from Newark, we flew to
Zurich, Switzerland through Dusseldorf,
Germany. The late morning and lunch was
spent in Zurich before boarding our private
coach to Lucerne. In Lucerne we toured the
Old Town and saw the Löwendenkmal
monument to the Swiss Guards who died
defending the Tuileries Palace in 1792. We
also visited one of the oldest Catholic
Churches in Switzerland and crossed the
medieval Kapelbtücke Bridge. The group
boarded the Gondola for a trip to the top of
Mont Pilatus, the tallest Alp in the region. At
the top we explored the Dragon caves and
watched the Alpine Horn players perform a
few Swiss Tunes. From Lucerne we travelled
to Innsbruck, Austria, with a lunch stop in
Europe’s third smallest country, Liechtenstein.
Just before lunch (and our departure from
Switzerland) we stopped at Läderach
Chocolate to see how chocolate is made,
sample fine Swiss chocolate and purchase
some to bring home.
Once in Innsbruck, we explored the old
cobblestone streets and marveled at the
ancient medieval architecture of the
Old Town still in use today. From Innsbruck
we boarded our bus to Munich, Germany. In
Munich we travelled to the center of town,
Marienplatz, and watched the Neues Rathaus
Glockenspiel ring out the hours of 11am and
noon while we had lunch. While in Munich
we ventured into the Bavarian countryside to
visit Neuschwanstein Castle, built by mad
King Ludwig and used as the model to
Disney’s Cinderella Castle. While in the
country, we visited the little village of
Oberammergau, which is known for its
frescoed cottages depicting scenes from the
bible and Grimm’s fairy tales, as well as,
regular performances of the Passion Play.
The Oberammergau Passion Play has been
performed there since the Middle Ages, but
during the Black Death the citizens of the
town prayed to God and pledged to perform
the Passion Play every ten years for eternity, if
they were spared. Since then, the Passion
Play has been performed in Oberammergau
throughout every year ending in a zero. Back
in Munich we toured the Paulaner Brewery,
which has been brewing beer for centuries
longer than the united States has been a
country. A somber excursion to Dachau
Concentration Camp had us contemplating
the dark forces that were once in control of
the countries we were visiting. We also
