the digital realm. Some of the
class is designed around
shooting assignments just as a
darkroom class would be. My
focus as a photography teacher
is to make certain that the
students know how to use their
cameras as an effective tool.
Photoshop is an excellent way to
be able to correct and edit your
imagery, but I want the students
to know how to photograph
before entering into post-
processing on the computer.
In the Digital Art course students
create our yearbook, and learn
about commercial art. Some
assignments include logo
design, creating magazine
covers, and creating the
individual layouts for our
yearbook pages. These students
also work as a design center for
the school. They create posters
for our theatre department, and
other signage for campus
events.
As the department chair, I
have a vision for the art program
here at Storm King. I know that
even though some students
may only take one art course
during their time here, they will
be inspired to translate the
creativity they find in the art
classroom to their everyday lives.
I am proud to say that our
seniors who wanted to attend
art schools are now happily
matriculated into excellent art
programs across the country.
Making art is about expres-
sion and intention, and I am
happy to be able to share my
love of the creative process.
